Meet Jonathan Chavez
Jonathan has been practicing criminal defense in State and Federal court since 2016. His practice is committed to criminal defense.
Jonathan spent the first three years of his career practicing alongside John Convery and Julie Hasdorff. With their mentorship, Jonathan tried cases to verdict in both State and Federal courts. He also represented people accused of crimes in State and Federal Appellate Courts.
Jonathan spent 2019-2022 as an Associate Criminal Defense Attorney at the Calfas Law Group, PLLC. There, Jonathan grew his Federal criminal defense practice as he began practicing in Federal District Courts around the State of Texas, Primarily in the Western and Southern Districts of Texas.
From 2022 through 2023 Jonathan worked for Bexar County, where he taught criminal defense attorneys how to handle criminal cases at every step of the process, ranging from pre-trial investigations all the way through post conviction writs.
While he loved teaching attorneys, Jonathan’s true passion is representing individuals accused of crimes in the courtroom. In 2023, Jonathan opened Jonathan Chavez Law.
Education and Legal Clerkships
Jonathan was fortunate enough to have the mentorship of some of the best criminal defense attorneys in the country while in law school. Jonathan clerked for Goldstein, Goldstein and Hilley. There, Jonathan worked on some of the most high end cases in the country in both Federal and State courts and both trial and appellate law.
